Popular drug company Johnson & Johnson has been ordered by a US court to pay $417 million in compensation to a woman who claimed she got ovarian cancer after using the company’s talc-based products.
The case is one of the many lawsuits brought against the company nationwide alleging the company failed to warn consumers of the risk of cancer from talc in its products.
According to court documents, the woman, named Eva Echeverria, used the company’s talc powder from the 1950s until 2016. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007.
Johnson & Johnson executives said in a statement that the company would lodge an appeal.
“We will appeal today’s verdict because we are guided by the science, which supports the safety of Johnson’s Baby Powder,” they said.
This will be the largest amount of money awarded yet in a number of lawsuits that claim the company did not adequately warn customers about potential cancer risks from its talc-based products.
Jay Z discussed his relationship with Kanye West where he said that Kanye’s rant last year November was personal because he brought his wife Beyoncé into it.
“What really hurt me, you can’t bring my kid or my wife into it. Like, Kanye is my little brother. He’s talked about me a hundred times. He even made a song called ‘Big Brother.’ We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it, now it’s a problem,” Jay Z said.
